Rockwood Elementary, Middle School Robotics Students Earn Awards at Local Qualifiers
Rockwood School District students on eigt robotics teams recently earned awards during FIRST Lego League (FLL) Challenge qualifying events in the St. Louis area during December and January.
Three Rockwood Robotics teams -- the Crustaceans and Robotic Rapper$ from Crestview Middle and TechnoSharks from LaSalle Springs Middle -- and three teams including Rockwood students -- Galaxy Bots, High Definition and Team Edge -- advanced on to the FLL Missouri Regional Championship, which will be held Feb. 22 at Francis Howell High. They will be among more than 40 teams from around the region competing for a chance to qualify for the World Championships in Houston, Texas, in April.
The Rockwood South Middle Goldfish earned the Innovation Project Award at their qualifier, given to teams that utilize diverse resources for their Innovation Project to help them gain a comprehensive understanding of their problem, have a creative, well-researched solution and effectively communicate their findings to judges and the community.
Lego Legends, another team that includes Rockwood students, also earned the Core Values Award 1st Place at its qualifier, given to the team that has shown the greatest enthusiasm, best sporting spirit, most extraordinary respect for its own team members and the most support for other teams in the tournament.
