Rockwood High School Robotics Teams, Students Advance to Regionals, Earn Awards at League Tournament

At the STL Mid League Tournament on Jan. 19 at Lafayette High, one Rockwood robotics team and two teams including Rockwood students advanced to the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Missouri Kansas Championship.

In addition, three Rockwood robotics teams and three teams including Rockwood students advanced to a Super Qualifier for another opportunity to qualify for states, and another Rockwood team earned an award at the Mid League tournament.

X Bots, a team composed of Lafayette and Marquette students, earned the first place Inspire Award and secured the most advancement points (104) in the region. The Inspire Award is given to the team that best embodies the overall challenge of the FTC program, across robot design and performance, creativity, innovation, team attributes and being a strong ambassador for FIRST programs overall and, a role model FIRST team and a gracious competitor on and off the field.

X Bots, the Eureka High Mesons and Force Green – which includes students from Lafayette, Marquette and Crestview and Rockwood Valley middle schools – all advanced to the state round. Three Marquette teams – the Luxons, Gluons and Baryons – and three community teams that include Rockwood students – Action Robotix, Verge and Autobotz – advanced to a Super Qualifier round Feb. 21 at Bayless High for another chance to qualify for states. The Eureka Bosons also earned the Think Award at the Mid League tournament.

In addition, six Lafayette and Marquette students earned Dean's List Semifinalist recognition for being exemplary student leaders and ambassadors for STEM and FIRST, and Lafayette science teachers and robotics coaches Shannon Campbell and Frank Consolino earned the Volunteer Award at the tournament.
