Rockwood Hosts Opening Reception for New Community Connectors Program

Rockwood kicked off a new chapter of community engagement on Sept. 8 as it hosted an opening reception for its inaugural class of Rockwood Community Connectors.

Selected from a competitive pool of 66 applicants following an open application window this summer, the cohort brings together 30 parents, alumni, grandparents, business owners and local leaders. Ranging in age from their early 20s to late 70s, the class offers a representative cross-section of all four geographic quadrants of the district. Among the members are stay-at-home parents, retirees, business professionals, a medical doctor, a publisher, a realtor, a mayor and two first-responders.

The reception marked the first gathering for the Class of 2027, which will participate in a nine-month program designed to offer an in-depth, comprehensive look into the complex operations of one of Missouri’s largest and top-rated public school districts.

"We are very excited to welcome in this talented, dedicated group of Rockwood patrons as our first class of Community Connectors," Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain shared. "Over the course of this school year, these community members will learn about all aspects of the Rockwood School District and be valuable resources for their friends, families and neighbors in spreading the word about our outstanding learning community. I would like to thank each and every one of our cohort members - as well as all who applied for the program - for taking such a deep and profound interest and devoting your time to helping keep Rockwood a special place to learn and grow."

Class members had their photos taken and learned more about each other and what to expect in the coming months.

The class will meet again on Sept. 30 for a full-day tour of the district with stops at 10 schools. Following their graduation in May, cohort members will join the Rockwood Community Connectors alumni network to remain active partners with the district and support future classes.
