Rockwood Moms Launch ‘We Are Rockwood’ Fundraiser for Student Meals

Two Rockwood School District moms have come together to raise money for students in need and promote unity in the district.

Abbey Ash and Sara Simpson, both from Fenton, have relaunched the popular “We Are Rockwood” T-shirts, with all proceeds going to Rockwood’s Got Your Back Pack (GYBP) program.

You can visit the “We Are Rockwood” store at  https://wearerockwood.itemorder.com/shop/home/.

Each Rockwood quadrant’s colors are featured on the design – green for Marquette, maroon for Rockwood Summit, yellow for Lafayette and purple for Eureka. The design emphasizes the bottom line that, together, We Are Rockwood.

Hoodies, sweatshirts and even hats are also available.

“We wanted to do this to help bring the district together and provide a sense of togetherness for our teachers and our community, as well as raise money for a good cause for the holiday season,” said Ash, who has an eighth-grader at Rockwood South Middle and a third-grader at Kellison Elementary. Ash said her whole family is an avid Rockwood supporter, with both kids active in school sports.

Simpson, the PSO president at Rockwood South who also has an eighth-grader on the school basketball team, emphasized that she and Ash wanted to keep the cost for the items as low as possible.

“We want this to be affordable for our teachers and staff to buy them to show Rockwood spirit but also for anyone in our community who wants to support our district right now,” Simpson said.

The shirt was originally designed in 2022 by four Rockwood Valley Middle sixth-grade teachers – Ashley Grace, Angie Ortinau, Megan Rammacher and Kassie Specht. Ortinau gave Simpson and Ash permission to relaunch the design this holiday season.

“I tweaked the colors of the original tee a bit to be brighter, but that’s all I did to update it because it was such a cute and popular design,” Simpson said.

“Got Your Back Pack was the perfect choice for this fundraiser because they really need the donations right now, and there’s nothing more important than feeding our kids,” Ash added.

GYBP is a program that provides meals and snacks for students and their families over the weekends when school meals are not available and they might not otherwise have access to food.

Orders will be through Prime Sports Midwest in Fenton and delivered for free to any Rockwood school. Items can be shipped directly to the buyer for an additional charge of $8. All proceeds from the sales will benefit Rockwood’s Got Your Back Pack.

The deadline to order is Nov. 30 to get your items before winter break. Order at https://wearerockwood.itemorder.com/shop/home/.
