Rockwood Sophomores Can Apply for Early College Partnership Through Feb. 17

The application window for the Early College Partnership (ECP) -- a full-immersion, early entrance to college program partnership between the Rockwood School District and St. Louis Community College (STLCC) -- is open until Tuesday, Feb. 17, for Rockwood sophomore students (Class of 2028).

Interested students can apply online at this link.

The ECP is a full-immersion, early entrance to college program located on the campuses of STLCC-Wildwood, Meramec and Forest Park. Students attend the ECP for two years, replacing the junior and senior years of traditional high school.

While in the ECP, students engage in a curriculum consisting of all college coursework taught by professors at STLCC. Upon successful completion, students can earn an Associate of Arts degree, as well as a high school diploma.

Hear from two current Rockwood and ECP students about their experience in the program!

Avery Graden, Marquette senior (Meramec and Wildwood campuses), and Kennedy Marshall, Eureka junior (Meramec campus)

What made you want to apply for the Early College Partnership?

AG: "I saw it as a great way to grow and experience new things while still having my high school support system. Most of my classes are STEM-related."

KM: "I wanted to get a head start on college and take advantage of the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. I am taking science-focused courses that go toward my biology degree, along with many general education classes that will directly transfer to my bachelor’s degree."

How are you enjoying your experience with the ECP?

AG: "I really enjoy the ECP. It's a great way to learn skills that you will continue to use after graduation and even the rest of your life."

KM: "Overall, I am enjoying my experience in the program. It is certainly more challenging than traditional high school classes, but it has helped me get used to the expectations of college-level classes and the challenges that come with it."

What has been your favorite part about being in the ECP?

AG: "My favorite part so far has been the people I've met. I've made friends I would not have been able to if I stayed at my high school."

KM: "The opportunity to specialize so early in my education. I am able to take classes in my field of interest that I would not have the opportunity to participate in while at my high school, such as studying human genetics."

What are your plans for after graduation, and how are you hoping your ECP experience benefits you moving forward?

AG: "I'm planning on transferring to a four-year school after graduation and getting my bachelor's. I really hope that the experiences I've gained and skills I've learned follow and continue to benefit me moving forward."

KM: "I plan to attend the University of Missouri to earn my bachelor’s degree in biology. After that, I hope to apply to Washington University to pursue a PhD in molecular genetics. I hope my ECP experience prepares me for future academic success by giving me a strong foundation in biology and helping me build confidence in college-level learning. The experience has already taught me time management, independence and how to succeed in a demanding academic environment. The Early College Partnership has been a valuable opportunity for me to explore my academic interests and get a head start on my college education. I encourage students who are motivated and want to challenge themselves to consider participating in ECP."
