Rockwood Student, Staff Achievement Honored at December Board Awards Ceremony
More than 230 Rockwood School District students, groups and staff members were honored for their achievements during the Board of Education Awards Ceremony on Dec. 4 at Rockwood Summit High.
The Board of Education Award is one of Rockwood's most prestigious honors, recognizing students and staff members who have achieved the highest standards of excellence that embody the Rockwood spirit.
Representatives from all four high schools, all six middle schools and Blevins, Chesterfield, Eureka and Geggie elementary schools earned Board Awards.
Board of Education President Lynne Midyett and Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain welcomed attendees to the ceremony, and Dr. Cain and directors Kary Bacert and Dr. Mara Vorachek-Warren helped hand out the awards to students and staff.
For the first time at a Board Awards ceremony, Glory of Missouri recipients from each Rockwood middle school were honored. The award recognizes 14 students from each school who represent the virtues that make up the "Glory of Missouri," which are engraved in the House Chamber at the State Capitol and embody elements essential to good citizenship. These students, now in high school, were first recognized as Glory of Missouri students at their middle schools this past spring.
Although he could not attend the ceremony, Marquette High math teacher and girls basketball coach Tim Bowdern was also honored with an Above and Beyond Award for his actions in providing first aid to two people in medical distress at a local convenience store.

Candidate filing for the Rockwood Board of Education closed on Dec. 30, and the district has three citizens who have filed to run for three open seats. The seats are currently held by Kary Bachert, Bob Cadigan and Lynne Midyett.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form for the 2026-2027 school year is now available for students to complete and submit, and the state of Missouri priority deadline is Monday, Feb. 2.
