Rockwood Students Find Fun, Friendship at Missouri Scholars Academy

Rockwood Students Find Fun, Friendship at Missouri Scholars Academy
A total of 16 Rockwood School District students participated in a unique summer learning and personal development experience at the annual Missouri Scholars Academy (MSA).
Founded in 1985, the MSA is a three-week residential program for 330 of Missouri’s academically gifted students who are ready to begin their junior year of high school. The Academy is held each June on the campus of the University of Missouri and administered by the University of Missouri Honors College.
This year's program, which ran from June 7-27, gave students the opportunity to interact with peers from around the state and embark on an educational and social experience administered by carefully selected faculty and staff and with a specially designed curriculum of interdisciplinary courses and a variety of stimulating extracurricular activities.
The MSA "reflects Missouri’s desire to strive for excellence in education at all levels. The program is based on the premise that Missouri’s gifted youth must be provided with special opportunities for learning and personal development in order for them to realize their full potential," according to the program website.

Rockwood Summit High science teacher Sarah Moonier has been named one of more than 30 regional honorees from around the state in the Missouri Teacher of the Year program.

The Rockwood Transportation Department earned a first-time pass rate of 99.2 percent on this year’s annual Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) bus inspection process.

Recent Rockwood School District graduates Oliver Arett, Madhav Devapal and Hannah Holder of Lafayette High and Sowmya Erukulapati of Marquette High are among the first round of this year’s College-Sponsored National Merit Scholarship winners.

More than 20 Rockwood educators were recently notified that they have been accepted into the one-year Ignite Rockwood Leadership program. The program is designed for educators who aspire to become a building or district administrator.
