Rockwood Students, Staff Honored at March Board Awards Ceremony

More than 170 Rockwood School District students, groups and staff members were honored for their achievements during the Board of Education Awards Ceremony on March 13 at Rockwood Summit High.

The Board of Education Award is one of Rockwood's most prestigious honors, recognizing students and staff members who have achieved the highest standards of excellence that embody the Rockwood spirit.

Representatives from all four high schools earned Board Awards, as well as students and staff members from Babler and Ridge Meadows elementary schools and Crestview, Selvidge and Wildwood middle schools.

Board of Education President Lynne Midyett and Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain welcomed attendees to the ceremony, and Dr. Cain, Midyett and director Bob Cadigan helped hand out the awards to students and staff.

Two different groups of students were also honored for their courageous actions in aiding classmates who were in distress with Above and Beyond Awards.

Eureka High student Kiya Bradshaw was honored for successfully performing the Heimlich maneuver on a friend who was choking during class. Eureka High students Trevor Codak and Kylee Tasky and Wildwood students Zak Abdulaziz and Harper Iovino also received Above and Beyond Awards for recognizing a medical emergency in their classroom and jumping into action until help arrived.

"Together, these students worked to get help, maintained a sense of calm and clear presence until additional staff arrived," said Wildwood Principal Dr. Jason Lievanos. "We are proud of your leadership and for taking the initiative to call for an ambulance. Thank you for embodying the core values of this district."
