Rockwood Summit Blends Variety of Performing Disciplines into Production of 'The Little Mermaid'
March is Music in Our Schools Month, a time to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children. Music in Our Schools Month is an opportunity to bring music programs to the attention of the community and display the value that school music brings to students of all ages. At Rockwood Summit High, the spring production of "The Little Mermaid" serves as an enriching co-curricular blend of acting, singing, orchestral music and theatrical production aspects for the school's students.
Music is all around in Rockwood Summit High's spring musical production of "The Little Mermaid." From the actors singing on stage to the musicians playing live in the pit orchestra, students are enjoying a variety of opportunities to showcase some of the skills they have learned in choir, band and orchestra classes at the school.
The production -- led by drama/speech teacher Lyndal Willis, band teacher Daniel Pace and vocal music teacher Gabrielle Pierle -- also gives students the chance to hone their craft in a variety of back-of-house and other production disciplines, such as costumes, carpentry, set design, lighting, choreography, promotion and creative direction.
On Wednesday, March 5, the Rockwood Summit Falcon Players welcomed in students from Rockwood South Middle for a matinee dress rehearsal. The Rockwood South students watched the first act of the show, then got the opportunity to ask the high-schoolers questions.
It was a fun, engaging experience for all involved!
"The Little Mermaid" will run at the Rockwood Summit theater from March 6-8, at 7 p.m. each night. You can visit this link to purchase tickets.
