Rockwood Transportation Rolls Out New GPS App
The Rockwood Transportation Department has launched a new portal for families to look up and monitor their student’s bus information, including following where a specific bus is on its route. The “My Ride K-12'' application utilizes GPS and allows parents to set up notifications for when the bus is approaching their student’s bus stop. Parents can access the portal either through the My Ride K-12 website or mobile app.
My Ride K-12 replaces two separate systems previously utilized by Rockwood parents (e-Link for looking up general bus information and Here Comes the Bus for real-time GPS location information) and combines them into one convenient app for all families. This will also be the tool used to notify parents of a late bus or change to a route, so it is very important that parents check the box to receive notifications when setting up their My Ride K-12 account.
“Rather than asking parents to download two separate apps, My Ride K-12 offers one comprehensive tool that provides our families with everything they need to know about their student’s school bus,” said Transportation Director Mike Heyman. “It is all inclusive - bus number, time and location for pick-up and drop-off, along with real-time GPS tracking. This app provides another layer of convenience, communication and security for our students and families, while also leading to greater efficiencies for our bus drivers on their routes.”
My Ride K-12 has the following features:
- See stop location, assigned route and scheduled pick up/drop off times;
- GPS geolocation shows when to expect the bus each day;
- Ability to sign up for notifications to be automatically alerted about changes in your student's bus status;
- Consistent and up-to-date information at your fingertips about your student's route.
Parents who have indicated they would like bus transportation for their student and who live in an area that is eligible for transportation will be able to view their student’s bus information beginning after 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9.
**Please note: In My Ride K-12, students can only be claimed by one parent. However, that student can be shared by the parent who claims the student with people the parent wants to provide access to. To do so, under the "My Students" section of the app, click on the drop-down menu labeled "Select Action" From there, the parent can select the option "Share Student" and add the email address for the people the parent would like to provide access to.**
