Rockwood will resume distributing free "Grab-N-Go" breakfast and lunch meals for community members ages 1-18, Monday, Sept. 14.
District administrators received word from Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) officials that the district qualifies to serve those free meals. This is based on unemployment levels in St. Louis and Jefferson counties.
Rockwood free meal distribution will take place Mondays and Wednesdays from 8-10 a.m. at Crestview, LaSalle Springs, Rockwood South and Selvidge middle schools.
Pre-registration is helpful. The registration form is available Mondays at 9 a.m. through Fridays at 9 a.m. to place an order for the following week.
Also, as Rockwood students gradually return to school buildings during the fall semester, all students will be able to eat breakfast and lunch for free. The return to free/reduced/paid status will tentatively take place in January.
"We're very pleased to be able to resume this service," said Rockwood Director of Child Nutrition Services Carmen Fischer. "It is still very important that families complete the free/reduced meal application, if they believe they might qualify. Many other programs in the district use those numbers to determine funding."
The free meal distribution will continue until federal program funding runs out or Dec. 31, whichever comes first.
