The Rockwood Board of Education has approved the hiring of Katie Johnson as the administrative intern at Fairway Elementary, beginning July 1. She is replacing Dr. Michelle Fitzsimmons, who will be the new assistant principal at Babler Elementary.
Johnson has worked in Rockwood for 19 years. She taught at Uthoff Valley Elementary for nine years and has been at Fairway for the past 10. For the past seven years, Johnson has served as the school counselor at Fairway. She is a national board certified teacher who was named Teacher of the Year at Uthoff Valley in 2010 and Teacher of the Year at Fairway in 2021. She has served as a mentor for new counselors for the past four years.
Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Missouri State University, a Master of Arts in Education from Webster University and a Master of Arts in School Counseling from Lindenwood University. She is also currently working on her Educational Specialist in School Administration at Lindenwood.
"I am extremely honored to continue to serve the incredible Fairway community in a new role this coming school year,” said Johnson. “I'm excited to work as a team with staff, students and parents to help our students thrive and find success in life."
Johnson and her husband, Blake, who is an English teacher and coach at Marquette, live with their two sons in Wildwood.
