Rockwood Celebrates National School Nurse Day
May 9, 2023
On Wednesday, May 10, Rockwood joins school districts across the country to celebrate School Nurse Day. On this day, we honor our 47 nurses and nurse shadows who make a difference in the lives of children every day.
School nurses lead the way in supporting health and ensuring that students are healthy, safe and ready to learn. In Rockwood, our nurses are the leaders who bridge health care and education, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student-centered care and collaborate to design systems that allow individuals and communities to develop their full potential today and every day.
"It is the professionalism, resourcefulness, warmth, and care beyond conditions you all exhibit that assures our parents that our students are safe in your hands," said Supervisor of Wellness and Health Services Amy Wehr. "Thank you for doing whatever it takes, and may you have a very happy School Nurses Day."

A total of six Rockwood nurses recently received nominations from community members in the "Nurses: The Heart of Health Care" campaign sponsored by BJC HealthCare, Delmar Gardens, Mercy and SSM Health and published in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch!
Here are some of the thoughts that community members shared about these nurses.

Melissa Groff
Crestview Middle
Melissa was a fantastic support for me as a principal as we navigated through the pandemic. She had a focus on student health that ensured we did what was best for each student. Her calm demeanor and patience allowed us to make it through each day.
Michelle Lord
Wildwood Middle
For her patience in working with all students and staff at Wildwood Middle School. She always goes above and beyond to ensure the wellness, safety and best practices for our students and staff.
For going above and beyond every day to serve our students and staff. She is the kindest, most upbeat, positive friend and colleague.
