March Board of Education Awards Program Honors Outstanding Rockwood Students, Staff Members
More than 150 Rockwood School District students and staff members were honored for their achievements during the Board of Education Awards Ceremony on March 2 at Marquette High.
The Board of Education Award is one of Rockwood's most prestigious honors, recognizing students and staff members who have achieved the highest standards of excellence that embody the Rockwood spirit.
Representatives from all four high schools earned Board Awards, as well as students and staff members from five elementary schools and three middle schools. Board of Education President Jaime Bayes and Superintendent Dr. Curtis Cain welcomed attendees to the ceremony, and Cain, Bayes and Board Vice President Lynne Midyett helped hand out the awards to students and staff.
Near the end of the program, the Above and Beyond award was presented to Ridge Meadows Elementary physical education teacher Drew Beckner, who exhibited outstanding contributions through non-required service or volunteerism.
Beckner worked with the Disabled Athlete Sports Association to help provide a free adaptive bicycle for one of his fourth-grade students, Evie, who can now participate in more physical education activities with her classmates.
Evie and her family were on hand for the ceremony, and Evie joined Beckner on the stage as he received his award.
"Thank you, Mr. Beckner, for ensuring all students have the opportunity to engage in learning and be successful," Cain said during the ceremony.
