Rockwood Students Earn Recognition at Local Robotics Qualifier
The robotics team Creative Constructors, composed mostly of Rockwood students, won the First Place Champion's Award at the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Challenge Qualifier on Saturday, Nov. 12, advancing to the regional competition on Jan. 21.
The Champion's Award is given to teams that score the highest across all categories: robot performance, project and core values. Crestview Middle students Ishaan Palanati, Vihaan Sawardekar, Anish Munje and Radha Khare and Wild Horse Elementary students Ronav Sawardekar and Shreeya Khare are on Creative Constructors.
Energetic Minds, composed of Rockwood students from four different elementary schools, finished fourth place out of 18 teams at the qualifier, and the Selvidge Stallions team won the overall Core Values award.
This year's FLL theme is "Energize," and the participating teams are expected to reimagine the future of sustainable energy and power their ideas forward. Creative Constructors performed a feasibility analysis for improving energy efficiencies and onsite renewable energy usage at public parks. Energetic Minds came up with the idea of "Park Sparks:" a charging station, powered by solar panels and a windmill, for people to use while out in the park, having safety in mind.
