Rockwood Students, Teams Advance to State Robotics Competition

Two Marquette High robotics teams and four other robotics teams featuring Rockwood students have advanced to the First Tech Challenge (FTC) Missouri Kansas Championship, which will be held Saturday, March 5, at Missouri S&T University in Rolla.

The Marquette Baryons and Luxons, as well as the X-Bots – consisting of students from six different Rockwood middle and high schools – Brute Force -- consisting of students from five different Rockwood middle and high schools -- and ForceGreen -- consisting of students from all four Rockwood high schools -- advanced at the FTC Missouri St. Louis Mid-League Tournament held at Rockwood Valley Middle on Feb. 19. The P3 robotics team, featuring two Rockwood Summit High students, advanced at the St. Louis South League Tournament on Feb. 12.

As the captain of the winning alliance, the X-Bots and their alliance members (including Brute Force) were event champions at the Feb. 19 qualifier.

The Baryons, Luxons, P3, X-Bots, Brute Force and ForceGreen are among the 36 teams that will compete in Rolla to qualify for the World Championships in Houston, Texas, in April.

X-Bots

The Rockwood students on the X-Bots robotics team

Team Members: Ankita Ramachandran, Avani Joshi (Lafayette High), Harini Annadorai (Marquette), Suchir Ryali (Crestview Middle), Ahnaf Rahman, Vishwajit Rangineni, Noah Johnson (Rockwood Valley Middle), Shwetha Annadorai, Aditi Sriram (Selvidge Middle), Aditi Roy, Alifiya Shakeel and Abhinav Rao (Wildwood Middle)

Awards Won: Captain of the Winning Alliance (Event Champions), Motivate Award, Inspire Award Third Place. Harini was also named a Dean’s List semifinalist, exemplifying her leadership and dedication to FIRST and showcasing the team’s spirit.

The Rockwood students on the P3 robotics team

Rockwood Team Members: Gracie Steinmeyer and Mira Iyer (Rockwood Summit)

Awards Won: Think Award, Inspire Award Second Place, Finalist Alliance and second-place rank in Robot Scoring. Mira and Gracie were also named Dean’s List semifinalists and will find out March 5 if they will advance as Dean’s List finalists.
