The start of the school year is just a few weeks away, and Rockwood will be hosting its first “Stuff the School Bus” event at the Walmart in Eureka on Saturday, Aug. 6, and Sunday, Aug. 7.
Volunteers will be collecting personal care items, school supplies, cleaning supplies and food items. Just look for a yellow Rockwood School District bus in the parking lot.
All donated items will be given to the Rockwood Gives Back program, which provides aid to Rockwood students who have a demonstrated need – whether it be food, personal care items or tutoring.
Director of Transportation Mike Heyman has been planning this event for several years.
“I have been able to communicate with a member of the Walmart team, who shares with me the common thread of helping the community in which we work,” Heyman said. “I want to help the Rockwood community by making it possible to ease the burden of purchasing school supplies as well as everyday necessities.”
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. If families and community members are interested in donating care items or school supplies and are unable to participate in the “Stuff the School Bus” event, Walmart will have boxes set up for customers to drop off items.

- Small plastic peanut butter containers
- Granola bars
- Individual snacks: chips, pretzels, popcorn, cookies, etc.
