The Marquette Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Christian Pierce, is one of only seven high school bands and 15 high school ensembles overall from around the state selected to perform at the conference.
The Wildwood Concert Band, under the direction of Denise Cadigan, is the only middle school band and one of five middle school ensembles overall scheduled to perform.
The annual conference will be held at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach, Missouri, from January 25-28, and will be attended by music educators from across the state. The theme for this year’s conference is “Grow MO: Telling Our Story and Influencing our Future." Ensembles from across the state, including those at the collegiate level, submitted recordings in the spring for adjudication in the hopes of being selected to perform.
Two Rockwood high school students also recently auditioned and earned acceptance into a national performing ensemble.
Rising Lafayette High senior Lexi Balog and rising Marquette junior Alice Liu both earned spots in the 2022 National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-National Concert Band. Balog was selected for flute, and Liu was selected to play first oboe, as one of only four oboe players from across the country to earn a spot in this ensemble.
The NAfME All-National Concert Band will perform in Washington, D.C., from Nov. 3-6.
