Lafayette High Graduate Earns Girl Scouts Gold Award
Isha Deol, a 2021 Lafayette High graduate, was recently awarded a Gold Award from the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri for initiatives she helped start as a Rockwood student to bring mental health awareness and suicide prevention to the student and staff population in the district.
The Gold Award is one of the highest honors bestowed by the Girl Scouts, recognizing projects that support lasting positive change in scouts' communities.
As a Lafayette senior last year, Deol helped start Mission Health Awareness (Mission MHA), a student-led initiative that seeks to build upon current mental health resources in place in Rockwood.
The main goals of Mission MHA are to improve mental health training and education for teachers; make current resources that the district provides more accessible; increase awareness of these resources among students; and get mental health professionals more involved in schools. Mission MHA initiatives have been incorporated into all four of Rockwood's high schools.
